Project financed through the call "Innovative Business Groups 2023" of the State Research Agency (Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism) and the European Union NextGenerationEU / PRTR.
The aim of the project is to unify Blockchain and RFID technology to optimize the traceability of the wine supply chain involving different stages and actors. Specifically, a platform will be developed that allows the tracking of IoT devices for the transport of wine, the identification of bottles using RFID and AI technology, all supported under a Blockchain platform that certifies all the information stored since the wine was put in boxes until it reaches the final consumer.
This proposal is the result of two projects (Blockchain.4W and Bodega Digital), which have already completed their first phases, and have converged on this proposal to present the second phase called Bodega Digital Phase II.
Blockchain technology is positioned as a key tool for improving data, document and communication exchange processes within the ecosystem of supply chains and their growing complexity, thus driving the transition to Industry 4.0.
In the field of food safety, specifically in the wine sector, the guarantee of product quality is a key element. Traceability is considered essential and necessary not only from a regulatory point of view: it allows monitoring the effectiveness of production, processing, logistics and sales systems in the supply chain and increases customer confidence. In this sense, the wine industry is increasingly betting on stricter traceability processes in the supply chain.
On the other hand, the efficient management of the inventory in the wineries has been a recurring challenge for several years due to the complexity of the processes in the supply chain, the constant flow of assets and the peculiarities of the bottles themselves . Wineries and other agents in the supply chain of the wine sector invest a lot of time and money in carrying out the inventory of their bottles (currently they have the barcode which is common in several batches), causing in many cases errors or insufficient information.
Similarly, systems that allow comprehensive demand planning, which would have great potential as a commercial tool for retailers and provide valuable information to producers and distributors, have not yet been integrated.
