Project financed through the call "Innovative Business Groups 2023" of the State Research Agency (Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism) and the European Union NextGenerationEU / PRTR.
The AGRIFOOD-ENV-DSS project focuses on the research and development of an innovative digital decision support system in the agri-food industry. The main objective is to optimize the production processes in the value chain, especially in the beverage industry (wine, cava, and beer), and contribute to reducing the environmental footprint. This involves reducing energy, water, and nutritional resource consumption, such as fertilizers, in agricultural production.
The consortium is composed of the Aragón Innovalimen Association, INNOVI, Grandes Vinos y Viñedos, La Zaragozana, Bodegues Sumarroca, Fama Systems, and Soluciones Cuatroochenta. It will collaborate with the Research Groups CREDENAT and GEOFOREST from the University of Zaragoza.
The digital system acquires relevant data on the sector's environmental footprint through advanced technologies like Chatbot and satellite imaging. The use of spatial data, including satellite images provided by the Copernicus satellite, is combined with cadastral information and orthophotos from the National Plan of Aerial Orthophotography to optimize the agricultural production phase.
The AGRIFOOD-ENV-DSS technology will enable companies to optimize the management of their industrial plants and anticipate production processes. In Phase I, an advanced digital system was designed, and Phase II focuses on expanding its functionalities to assess the environmental footprint of products, involving all stakeholders in the value chain.
The system will improve usability with innovative technologies like chatbots and the integration of satellite maps, facilitating decision-making and environmental monitoring. Phase II will focus on integrating the entire value chain and new sustainability criteria, promoting improvements and technical corrections.
The project will contribute to the evolution toward more sustainable and transparent production in the agri-food industry, making companies more competitive in a market where consumers seek environmentally friendly products. In Phase III, the possibility of certifying the environmental footprint of collaborating companies for effective communication with stakeholders will be evaluated.
