Aid for projects promoting the circular economy of the Catalan Waste Agency 2023

The main objective of the present project to receive the grant of grants for circular economy promotion projects 2022, is the creation of a new complete system (product-service) to eliminate metal and plastic waste generated during the fermentation process of sparkling wines, through the use of an innovative mono-material closure which, combined with a system of Take Back or extended responsibility of the producer, guarantees its correct treatment and recycling, generating a flow of high quality recycled material, in order to reintroduce it into the manufacturing process.

With regard to the eco-design part, FIZZYCAPS will develop a new 100% recyclable Polyethylene cap system, which allows the raw material necessary for its manufacture to be reused, allowing the current metal crown cap and plastic shutter to be replaced (2 materials). This new design will focus on solving and improving technical aspects of the previous version that prevent its recycling and scalability (current product marketed by FIZZYCAPS under the name of FIZZTIRAGE), such as its recycling capabilities, dimensions, weight, and its operation on high production lines, through the development of a new cap that is fully recyclable, lighter, less bulky and faster to produce, in addition to requiring 40% less Polyethylene to be manufactured.

These improvements will provide the necessary characteristics to make it viable for large producers of cava and thus be able to achieve the goals of eliminating non-recyclable waste, as well as allowing its reuse.
