Smart Wineries 4.0

Smart Wineries

Development of a monitoring software tool with the capacity to act and assist the user in making decisions in energy and process management.

Project supported and funded by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness of Spain (MINECO) within the AEI support program to contribute to improving the competitiveness of Spanish industry.

The project aims to develop a monitoring software tool with the ability to act and assist the user in decision-making DSS (Decision support System) in energy and process management throughout the wine and wine production chain of wine and cava, from harvest to bottling and storage. The project also presents the definition of the implementation system (sensor system, data acquisition, communications and storage) and the processing and treatment of the necessary data for the correct use of the tool, allowing to have a benchmarking system in the sector, within the agreement that the participants define. The project aims to become the beginning of a strategy for the evolution of the sector towards industry 4.0, based on the development of digital enablers for the exploitation of information regarding energy consumption and action on the physical production process. Its associated objective is the definition and implementation of a system of energy indicators in the wine sector.

The result of this project will allow to evaluate the advantages related to the potential for improving the sustainability, environmental and economic, of the sector taking into account the technical-scientific risk and the development and implementation costs.

The development of this project entails the following associated technical-scientific objectives:

  • Identification and quantification of the most energy-intensive products and processes.
  • Identification and quantification of the forms of primary and secondary energy with the greatest impact on consumption.
  • Identification of the measurement points and the necessary instrumentation for their size.
  • Definition of indicators for the evaluation, by the plant operators, of the energy efficiency of the global process and of the different stages.
  • Definition of indicators for evaluating the potential for improvement in energy efficiency of the use of the best available technologies (BAT) in the manufacturing process and in the generation of energy for the supply of the process.
  • Definition of a methodology for the energy comparison ("Benchmarking") between companies in the sector according to sector classification criteria (volume of production, type of products, denomination of origin, etc.).
  • Study of technical feasibility and benefits associated with the use of algorithms based on Artificial Intelligence for: demand prediction, process efficiency analysis, production operation optimization, predictive maintenance.
  • Integration study of the tool to be developed with existing platforms, or in the development process, that deal globally with all aspects of the production chain (accounting, stocks, distribution, personnel, etc.).

Update

During the first quarter of 2019, the aforementioned monitoring software tool was developed with the capacity to act and assist the user in decision-making in energy and process management throughout the entire supply chain. production of wine and cava.
