HIDROVINYA

Tool to know the water status of the vineyard through meteorological and edaphic data

Aid for Innovation Cooperation. Operation 16.01.01 of the RDP of Catalonia 2014-2020.

The main objective of the project is the creation and installation of a network that collects the meteorological and edaphic data necessary to know the water availability of the vineyards, and, from the data, to be able to predict the response of the plant to stressful situations, as a basis for working on the adaptation of viticultural techniques to the conditions caused by climate change.

This main objective is specified in several objectives:

  • Assess at all times the availability of water in the soil that can be used by the vineyard, based on meteorological data and soil moisture.
  • Relate water availability data to the water stress level of the plants, obtained by reading the water potential of the leaves.
  • Observe the response of the vines to different degrees of water stress in which they can be subjected.
  • Assess the implementation of different actions in the management of the vineyard soil and vegetation management, as measures to adapt to situations of increasing water stress
  • Create a networked work in order to monitor different climatic and edaphic conditions.
  • Based on the data set, be able to design a model for predicting the response of vine plants to water stress situations.
  • Generate, implement and validate a decision support tool, both in irrigation conditions and in dry conditions for the improvement of vine cultivation.
  • Assess the final impact on the vegetative and productive development of the vineyard, and the effects on the quality of the must.
  • Optimize water management in the vineyard based on data from the monitoring network, both in irrigation management (where available), soil management and management of vineyard vegetation.
