A new route for the Ecodesign of Packaging in the Gourmet Sector

The Sustainable Gourmet Pack project, promoted by INNOVI and the Food Retail Cluster of Catalonia with the support of the Waste Agency of Catalonia, has ended with the preparation of practical proposals to facilitate the transition to eco -design in the sector of Gourmet products. The main objective of the project has been to deepen the knowledge of the use of sustainable packaging, and to analyze their barriers and opportunities from a collaborative and applied perspective.

For twelve months, the project has been developed in six technical stages and one for coordination and communication. He has included a market analysis, two participatory workshops and the creation of a stable working group that has brought together companies and agents in the gourmet and wine sector. More than twenty key agents in the value chain, including producers, designers, manufacturers and distributors, have been actively involved.

The workshops have identified the main difficulties in moving towards more sustainable packaging, such as the availability of materials, costs or lack of technical information. From this collaborative work, specific actions have been co -authored, such as the incorporation of monomaterial alternatives, the reduction of grammar or the development of improvements in the environmental communication of the products. These actions have been included in technical sheets with decision criteria and applicable examples, designed to facilitate decision -making within companies.

The project has also highlighted the need to clearly and truthfully communicate the environmental commitment of brands, especially in the case of high -end products, where the packaging plays a strategic role.

Sustainable Gourmet Pack has been funded by the Waste Agency of Catalonia in the framework of support for circular economy projects. The initiative shows that joint work between clusters and companies is an effective tool for promoting sustainable innovation, and the model of work developed is replicable in other segments in the agri -food sector.

Innovi and the Food Retail cluster provide for continuity to this line of work, accompanying companies in the implementation of real and efficient solutions in the field of eco -design.
